Senior Marketing Content Writer | Communications


Knox College invites applications for the full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position of Senior Content Writer in our Office of Communications, primarily responsible for supporting the College’s admissions programs to engage prospective students and their parents; this position will also support enhancing the College’s national reputation. This position reports to the Executive Director of Communications.

The senior content writer serves as a key content strategist, writer and editor for admission-focused college communications, including digital and print communications; this position also implements all primary marketing and communication messaging, and is the senior content strategist for the Office of Communications, working in partnership with colleagues to plan and develop, or assign development of visual and written content for the website, social media, magazine, blogs, and other mediums, all focused on supporting our admissions programs.


Essential Duties:


  • Serve as key content writer and editor for strategic College marketing communications, focused on high priority Admission communications; may also occasionally include select president’s office communications, Advancement communications, and other reputation-focused projects.
  • Lead the mining, planning and writing profiles and stories for the Knox website and other print and digital communications vehicles.
  • Lead planning, writing, and assignments (in partnership with director of digital initiatives) for ongoing web content updates, including marketing, academic department, and outcomes content, all focused on supporting Knox College admissions.
  • Lead content development meetings and regularly consult on social media planning and execution with other members of the content team.
  • Assist with the production of College e-communications.
  • Supervise two content creators to ensure they are developing content in line with a digital first focus that effectively engages prospective students, parents, and other key admission and reputational stakeholders.


Education and Experience


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five years experience in a related field, with a noted progression of job responsibilities
  • Experience with web-authoring software and web writing
  • Experience with standard word-processing and design software
  • Exceptional writing ability
  • High level of attention to detail, especially in editing and proofreading
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects at once and meet deadlines
  • Basic understanding of promotional/marketing design/magazine production
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the mission of a liberal arts institution and the benefits and outcomes of a liberal arts education


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or related field


A hybrid in-person or remote work arrangement may be considered for Illinois residents.
