Assistant Librarian for Special Collections and Archives 


Knox College’s Seymour Library invites applications for the full-time, twelve-month, benefited position of Assistant Librarian for Special Collections and Archives. This position reports to the Director of the Library.

The successful candidate will join a library staff dedicated to working collaboratively to serve the students, staff, and faculty of Knox College and will be part of a team that will help plan Seymour Library’s future. 


Responsibilities


  • Provide academic leadership in applying our Special Collections & Archives to our undergraduate, liberal arts curriculum 
  • Create a collection development policy including planning for collecting current student materials 
  • Arrange and describe archival and manuscript collections, and supervise staff and students in this work 
  • Collaborate with library staff on creating digital collections and implementing ArchivesSpace 
  • Maintain and develop the manuscript and rare book collections
  • Manage staff, budget, and facilities to support the College’s academic and collection objectives. 


Education and Experience


Required Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree from an ALA-Accredited program in library and information science, or a Master’s in history, public history, or related fields 
  • Knowledge and experience with one or more archival management systems
  • Experience facilitating research questions and consultations
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to sustain an affirming, creative, collaborative, and ethical work environment, fostering respect among library and campus colleagues 
  • A commitment to Knox’s mission of building a diverse and inclusive community and to collecting materials that reflect Knox’s diversity


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Supervisory experience preferred (student worker supervisory experience acceptable)
  • Instructional experience at the college-level is highly desirable although instructional experience in other environments will be considered
  • Experience working with diverse populations
